When can I purchase a 2020 Family Tree membership?

  1. 2019 Premium Family Tree members will have from August 26 to September 1 to purchase a 2020 Family Tree membership.
  2. 2019 Standard Family Tree Members will have from September 2 to September 8 to purchase a 2020 Family Tree membership.
  3. Public will have from September 9 to September 15 to purchase the remaining 2020 Family Tree memberships.

How do I purchase a 2020 Family Tree membership?

Current members have first access to renew! We will open up any remaining spots to the general public on September 9, 2019.

Where do I pick up my boxes and pre-purchased beer?

Membership boxes and pre-purchased beers will be available at the member’s chosen permanent pickup location; West Creek or Richmond. *Once a pickup location is chosen, it cannot be altered throughout the Beer Club year.

When can I pick up my boxes and pre-purchased beers?

Releases will be available throughout the year and members will be notified via a monthly Family Tree Newsletter and reminder emails as well as the respective Family Tree Facebook groups.

What do I need to pick up my boxes and beer?

All you need to pick up your member box and beers is a valid ID. You can also designate a proxy who will also need a valid ID. Members are encouraged to schedule their pick up by emailing [email protected] with pickup location and expected orders so we can have you beers ready!


Will you hold my beers and for how long?

Yes, we will happily hold your Family Tree box and pre-purchased beers for up to six weeks after the release date. Extensions to deadlines will be made accordingly to provide overlap of box and beer releases to make pickups as efficient as possible. Pickup deadlines will be posted in monthly Family Tree newsletters and reminder emails as well as the official Facebook group page. 

*Any beer not picked up by its associated deadline will be forfeited and released for sale.  This includes any bottle that is initially included in the Family Tree boxes or purchased in addition to member included beer.  Please make arrangements if you are unable to make it to the brewery by emailing [email protected],  reaching out to fellow members through our Facebook group or by other means.

Can I have a proxy pick up my orders for me?

Yes! You can assign a proxy to pick up your box and/or pre-purchased beer from your designated pickup location. You will be prompted to provide a proxy at the time of your order! 

*All proxies must be 21+ years of age. This person is acting on your behalf and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and fullness of your order pickup before they leave the brewery.  The brewery is not liable for what happens to your beer once it is picked up.

Can I change my proxy?

You will be prompted to list a proxy during check out of each order. If at anytime you need to change your proxy for an order simply email [email protected] to request the change.

What beers will be included in 2020 Family Tree boxes?

As we strive to provide the highest quality product and due to the nature of the craft, we occasionally have to change release dates and shift out beers. For this reason we do not lock in every beer that will be offered throughout the year. There will be a mix of barrel-aged ales, seasonal styles and unique and delicious beers we think our members will enjoy!

Will Family Tree beers be available to non-members?

Family Tree beers are packaged in bottles or can format exclusively for Family Tree members. We package Family Tree beers as closely to the number of memberships as possible to reduce excess. Family Tree exclusive beers may be kegged and on occasion served on draft at special events on and off premise and entered into competitions.

Any left over packaged Family Tree beers are moved to the cellar for purchase by current members. After the membership year has ended, Hardywood holds the right to open up sale of packaged Family Tree beer to the succeeding Family Tree members.

Can I transfer my membership?

No. There will be no membership transfers. Memberships must be registered in the name of the intended beneficiaries. If you wish to buy a membership as a gift please purchase a gift membership and have the recipient complete their registration by December 28th, 2019.

Can I cancel my membership and get a refund?

We do not allow the cancellation of membership and do not offer refunds.

Do you sell barrels?

We often have barrels for sale, but please contact us to ensure we have some in stock before heading to a taproom. Barrels are available out of the West Creek taproom.

What’s happening in the taproom today?

Our taprooms are open 6 days a week as listed above (Tues-Sun), with a wide variety of events hosted weekly including beer releases, community partnerships, live music, and much more.

Events are listed by location on our website and on Facebook as details are solidified. If you do not see an event listed for a particular date, Tuesday – Saturday, rest assured that the taps will be flowing during regular public taproom hours as listed above, and we may have a few surprises in store!

Do you have a restaurant?

Our production/taproom locations are designed to brew and serve delicious craft beer. We do not operate full-service restaurants out of our taprooms. We do put a lot of energy into making sure food trucks and/or light snacks are available for our guests. Guests are also permitted to bring light snacks and order food for delivery. Traditional catering/platters are not permitted in public taproom areas (see Private Events). Hardywood does not provide plates, napkins, utensils, or serve-ware.

Will you have a food truck today? What is today’s food truck?

We schedule at least one food truck to serve during all taprooms hours in our Richmond and West Creek taprooms. Please note the following:

  • Food trucks are independently-owned businesses that are not affiliated with Hardywood. Please contact the food trucks directly with questions, comments and feedback.
  • Food trucks are subject to change, cancellation or to run out of menu items with no notice.

Do you serve cider, wine, non-alcoholic beer or gluten-free beer?

We are not currently producing cider, wine, non-alcoholic or gluten-free beers on-site, and our ABC license only permits us to serve products which are made on-site in our facilities. Virginia ABC law prohibits guests from bringing any of the above options onto any Hardywood property.

What non-alcoholic beverages do you serve?

We offer locally-sourced kombucha from Blue Mountain Bucha, and nitro coffee from Snowing In Space for purchase in our taprooms. Keep your eyes peeled for Francie’s Lemonade, a seasonal house-made lemonade available on tap during the warmer months!

Do you serve soft drinks?

We do not carry soft drinks at the bars, however, our featured food trucks will typically offer soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverage options.

Who is playing this weekend? What time does the band start?

Please visit our website or Facebook event listings for details. Set times are always subject to change. Live music will typically begin at approximately 6PM for evening shows and 3PM for afternoon shows. Unless specifically noted on our website or Facebook listings, our music programming is FREE and open to all ages.

Is the music inside or outside?

Live music may be held indoors or outdoors based on weather. If there is a threat of rain or thunderstorm, music will be presented indoors. Note: all music in Charlottesville will be presented indoors.

How do I book a show for my band at Hardywood?

Please submit samples of your music and links to all web and social media properties via our contact form. Please note that we require a W9 from any band that we book.

Are your taprooms family-friendly?

Yes, all 3 Hardywood taproom locations are family-friendly and open to all ages. Footwear is required for Hardywood guests of all ages.

What amenities do you have for children?

Each Hardywood taproom is designed with a focus on presenting an inviting, enjoyable atmosphere for our adult guests, however, we invite the whole family to join us. Please ask your Hardywood server about board games and other children’s activities, which will vary in each Hardywood taproom. We ask parents/guardians to leave toys/games with small parts at home, and to assist us in ensuring that children are behaving in a manner that does not disrupt the experience for our adult guests.

What is your return policy?

Any items purchased in our taproom, except food or beer, may be exchanged or returned at any time provided that the items are in new condition. For a full refund of the purchase price, a receipt must be provided at the time of return. All items returned in new condition without a receipt are eligible for exchange only.

Are pets permitted?

Well-behaved dogs are permitted in the outdoor areas of all 3 taproom locations. Dogs must remain on their leashes at all times. Water bowls are available for dogs in all 3 locations. If you are concerned about the comfort/safety of your pet, particularly in the case of extreme weather conditions or in large crowds, we strongly encourage you to leave your pet to enjoy the comforts of home.

Can I bring my pet indoors?

Hardywood does not permit dogs in any of our 3 indoor taprooms, with the exception of registered service dogs.

How do I schedule a private event?

Please visit our Private Events page to learn about private rental options at Hardywood. Please allow up to 5 business days for return communication. We do not book private events via Facebook, direct email, phone call or any other method outside of the Private Event Request Form.

Can I host a birthday party at Hardywood?

Of course! We would love to be a part of your next birthday celebration. Just keep in mind that due to ceiling height, balloons are not permitted at our West Creek facility. Also, we encourage you to bring along a dessert to celebrate the occasion, but please leave the candles at home. Lit candles are not permitted in any of our taprooms.

Can I reserve space in the public taproom? Do you take reservations?

We do not take reservations for tables or space in our public taproom areas, indoors or outside. Tables/chairs, etc. are available to our public guests on a first come, first served basis.

How much do tours cost?

$8 per guest. Tours include a souvenir Hardywood tasting glass and samples for guests 21+.

How long are brewery tours?

Tours generally last about 30 minutes, with time for Q & A.

How many people per tour?

Each tour is limited to a maximum of 25 guests.

Is there an age limit for tours?

You must be 16+ to tour the brewery. You must be 21+ to receive a tasting glass and samples.

Are there clothing requirements for tours?

Tour guests must wear closed toe shoes, and high heels are not permitted. We will provide each guest with a pair of fashionable safety glasses that are required in the brewhouse. While they are fashionable, these glasses are not souvenirs.
