Looking for a special event to celebrate your Valentine this year? Why not take your little buckaroo to the Valentine's Day edition of Richmond's hottest new Country-Western music series, COUNTRY FORMAL, at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery?!
On Saturday February 15th, your hosts Ramona & the Holy Smokes team up with Nashville's own Eliza Thorn for a night of honky tonk that you and your sweetheart will never forget...(*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*
Don't know how to two-step? Don't worry! Charlie Davis (of Charlie and the 45s) will be kicking off the night at 6:30pm with a two-step lesson to teach your feet! The music will start shortly after that around 7pm.
Ramona and the Holy Smokes is a Honky Tonk band from Charlottesville Virginia, whose original music recalls classic country from the 1950s and 60s. The Holy Smokes are fronted by Ramona Martinez, a singer-songwriter whose sincere and heartfelt music has been described as "incredibly relatable" and "earnest." She also pulls from her Mexican-American roots to perform and compose traditional Mariachi music in a Country Western style. Martinez was listed as one of the "15 Latino Artists Shaping Country Music" by Wide Open Country.
Hailing from rural Connecticut with a warm and uninhibited voice, Eliza Thorn is a bright eyed and emergent force, cultivating a characteristic sound. Years of travel and busking have lent an element of grit to her tonality, honing a penchant for honest storytelling in the process. Thorn tips a proverbial hat to her idols, spanning from Bob Wills to The Ronettes and Howlin’ Wolf. Her melodic, quirky, and evocative songwriting style cherishes traditional elements from legacy artists while proudly showcasing her fresh approach.
