About Tristan Dougherty
Tristan Dougherty is a folk musician in Richmond, Virginia, whose songs combine meditative, finger-style guitar playing with warm, illuminative lyrics.
A prolific and versatile musician who is serious about his craft, Tristan started playing guitar at 11 and by 13 was composing and recording his own songs, performing all of the parts and mixing them on his family’s home computer. After earning his bachelor’s in classical guitar from Virginia Commonwealth University, he played and toured in several sustained collaborations, including the gypsy-rock band Fool’s Errand, the space-folk band The Moonbees, and the folk duo Flicker and Flame. The 2020 pandemic forced him to be a one-man ensemble again, this time with better equipment and a more seasoned sound. His forthcoming solo album draws inspiration from the friction between the natural world and the built environment, and between who we were and who we are becoming.
